Welcome to the Whitby Website

Whitby seaside resort has a skyline that is dominated by seagulls flying over the red roof tops of local fishermen cottages. At the top of East Cliff in Whitby, reached by climbing the famous 199 steps, are the ruins of Whitby Abbey, Whitby Abbey visitor centre, St. Hilda's church and St Mary`s church. It is here at St Mary's church that the author Bram Stoker found the inspiration to write his world famous story of the undead for his book named Dracula. Panoramic views from Whitby Abbey cliff tops over Whitby town and the river Esk below are breath taking, seeing a canopy of red roof tops and a maze of alleyways leading to olde fisherman's cottages and yards, going down narrow cobbled streets to the busy fishing harbour. Here you will find the local inshore fishing boats, the larger working deep sea fishing trawlers, day trip boats and the fish auction quayside. On both sides of the river Esk you will find the tourist shops selling Whitby rock, Whitby jet, Whitby holiday souvenirs, Whitby fisheries selling freshly caught cod, crab, lobsters, oysters, cockles and the very popular Whitby fish and chip restaurants and café's for either a takeaway in the traditional paper or some of the finest sit in fish and chip restaurants in North Yorkshire.

From Whitby take a short drive inland onto the North Yorkshire Moors and National park. To the south of Whitby lies the coastal villages and sea side resorts of Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington. Explore the Yorkshire Heritage Coast  to the North and South of Whitby to discover quaint old fishing ports such as Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay, clinging to steep cliffs. Driving further inland from Whitby you will find the city of York, what was the capital hometown to the Vikings. Here you can visit the York Minster, tour the gift shops in the famous Shambles and then when returning back to your Whitby bed and breakfast accommodation, why not go via the breathtaking Moorland vistas surrounding the upland villages of Danby, Castleton, Goathland and Fry Up. Compare these to Whitby's surrounding villages on the banks of the salmon River Esk, such as the villages of Lealholm, Egton Bridge, Grosmont, Ruswarp and the coastal villages of Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes, Ravenscar, Sandsend and Cayton Bay, a seaside resort near to Scarborough. Whitby is the ideal seaside resort to be based for those day trips out, your summer holidays and weekend breaks.
